Mercedes-Benz announces record sales of over 600000 in China

Even its top-end AMGs witnessed double-digit growth in 2017 reflecting India as a lucrative premium auto market in the world. That's a growth of 15.9% compared to the previous year (Jan-Dec 2016: 13,231 units). BMW, another major rival, has not yet revealed its 2017 figures, although according to Automobile News the German company had sold more than 540,000 units by the end of November, making it the luxury auto industry's leader in China at the time.

"Last year was one of the most challenging years for the industry and also a year of missed opportunities".

Mercedes-Benz has been the oldest luxury auto brand in India with its manufacturing unit in the country more than two decades old already. After fixing a GST rate of 28 percent with 15 per cent cess on large cars and SUVs, the government later on revised it and hiked the cess by 5 percent and 7 percent, respectively in September.

Mercedes-Benz India, the largest luxury auto brand in the country, has announced record sales of highest ever yearly, half-yearly and also Q4 sales in 2017.

He said the company commands around 40 percent of the luxury vehicles market in India. Both the SUV segment from Mercedes-Benz as well as the performance and sports-car brand, Mercedes-AMG achieved double-digit growth in 2017. 2017 was a successful year for us and the decision to introduce the Long Wheelbase E-Class was strategic and highly successful.

At a media briefing today, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's sales and marketing vice president Mark Raine said the locally-produced vehicles, especially the new E-Class and the GLC, have been the main growth drivers.

In 2018, Mercedes-Benz plans to launch a number of products, many without a predecessor in India including a range of AMG products that will make their India debut.
