Numerous reports have indicated that it is only a matter of time before the Oakland Raiders name Jon Gruden their next head coach, and the ESPN broadcaster all but confirmed that on Tuesday.

Raiders owner Mark Davis has reportedly made an offer Jon Gruden couldn't refuse.

While Del Rio losing his job didn't surprise many, the timing did, as owner Mark Davis fired Del Rio while he was on his way to the locker room immediately after the game. An ESPN spokesman tweeted Monday that Gruden is still scheduled to work Saturday's AFC Wild Card game in his current role as an analyst.

"It's simple, you don't make that move with Jack Del Rio unless you know you can get Jon Gruden", Schefter said on ESPN. But, that doesn't look like it's going to stop the Oakland Raiders from potentially giving him too much. Gruden, 55, had a 40-28 record in his four seasons with the Raiders with two playoff appearances before being traded to Tampa Bay after the 2001 season.

Davis said he will not have any other statement until after a new coach has hired but speculation is rampant that Jon Gruden will be back for a second stint with the team. For the first time this season it seemed Del Rio had lost the team as the effort just wasn't what it was in previous weeks.

National Football League teams unhappy with their results in 2017 reportedly started cleaning house on Sunday night, just hours after the regular season concluded.

"Since 2006-07 and the teams that we had, what Jack has done to bring this organization back to life so to speak and give his three years, he built a good team and had some good games", Condo said. But again, Gruden has not coached since 2008.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was a guest on "The Dan Patrick Show", when he was asked about an earlier report that speculated Gruden would receive an ownership stake in the team as part of his contract. Rapoport added that Gruden has already picked a defensive coordinator. Amid talk of a Super Bowl berth, they finished with a 6-10 record.
