Nonetheless, with Spotify having 60 million paying users and Apple about 27 million subscribers YouTube will have a mountain to climb to catch up.

Google is getting ready to launch its new music subscription service under YouTube 's brand in march, according to a new Bloomberg report. Music Group. However, it is still in talks with Sony Music Entertainment, Merlin and the Universal Music Group regarding the details of the music streaming service.

There are still a few months left for YouTube to make things happen and it will certainly be interesting to see how things develop.

As per Bloomberg's report, YouTube is finalizing the necessary deals to launch its own music streaming service.

The service, internally referred to as Remix according to Bloomberg, will compete with similar offerings from Spotify and Apple. Warner Music Group, one of the world's three major record labels, has already signed on, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private talks.

If the deals go through and the service is launched this should go some way in helping to appease the music industry, with YouTube coming under for years over not stringent enough copyright infringement policing and not paying artists and labels their dues.

Though the music industry had hoped Red would be devoted to music, YouTube has positioned it as a home for original video projects like science-fiction comedy "Lazer Team" and a reboot of "The Karate Kid".
