The mayor Wednesday afternoon declared a local state of emergency in response to the Skirball Fire.

A raging wildfire fueled by high winds created an wonderful - and terrifying - sight for morning commuters Wednesday on Interstate 405 in Los Angeles.

Roxanne Langer at Moraga Vineyards in Bel Air said a temperature-controlled wine storage shed burned after the fire erupted before dawn, but it was unclear how much wine was lost.

But, he added, "We just don't know what this fire will do". The fire is not contained in the slightest.

Some 30 structures were destroyed by the Creek Fire by Tuesday evening, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The Creek Fire bore down on the family ranch, leaving them little time to evacuate. Containment remained at 5 percent.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path of California's wildfires", tweeted President Trump Wednesday. "THANK YOU to all First Responders for your incredible work!"

"In a wind-driven event, wind is king", Hogan said. Wind gusts are expected to reach 80 miles per hour in some spots, with humidity under 10%.

"It's not our goal to create panic", Upton said, "but when the predicted situation is so dire that it makes you lose sleep at night, you have to impress upon the public the severity of the situation".

LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas said the city is prioritizing where to put firefighters as the department faces a week of critical fire weather due to fierce Santa Ana winds and low humidity.

No significant rain has fallen in Southern California since July. "We are stretched thin".

Emails have been sent to both Riviera and Bel-Air clubs.

Terrazas likened the blaze to the 1961 Bel Air Fire, which destroyed almost 500 homes, including several belonging to Hollywood celebrities. That system keeps smoke and ash from getting into the galleries and protects the collection.

The Getty Center has a sophisticated air filtration system that can reverse directions and push air out, Hartwig said.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District is closing all schools.

That fire has now reached 96,000 acres, and officials fear the worst wind day so far this week in Southern California as the region battles major brushfires, scorching nearly 120,000 acres altogether. Around 43,000 Californians are without power as of Tuesday night, according to Southern California Edison.
