Jos - The abductors of Damishi Sango, Plateau PDP Chairman and former Sports Minister, have demanded for N100 million ransom.

The former minister, alongside his political ally, Emmanuel Magni; his son; orderly, and driver were abducted on Wednesday along Jere-Garkawa Road in Kaduna State, on their way to Abuja for the PDP national convention.

State Publicity Secretary of the party, John Akans, said Sango had gone to secure an hotel accommodation for delegates ahead of the Saturday PDP convention in Abuja.

"It was the Police who called his family and intimated them of the incident because his son's phone was seen inside the vehicle".

He said, "The kidnappers have contacted the family of Damishi Sango and are demanding for N100 million".

Asked if he suspected whether the incident had any link with the PDP convention or if the abductors were Fulani herdsmen, Akans said it could be the normal case of kidnapping as there was insecurity in the country. The family have spoken with Sango and he assured them that he was safe.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Muktar said "the Inspector General of Police's (IG's) Anti-Kidnapping Team and the Special Tactical Squad (STS) have swung into action to recue the victims when we received a distress call at about 6p.m on Wednesday about the incident, which occurred along Kagarko-Jere road".

However, the Kaduna State Police Command has said special forces had been dispatched to rescue Sango and four others.
