Apple Pay Cash Now Available with Latest iOS Update

Sherri Watson | 08 December, 2017, 00:32

The latest feature to hit iOS is Apple Pay Cash, which gives iPhone users a quick and easy way to send money to one another (as well as a way to spend money at stores without using a credit or debit card). For those who are passionately dedicated to the Apple ecosystem, it has an appeal.

Now, Apple Pay Cash just by its name alone insinuates that both the sender and receiver will need to have some sort of Apple device to take advantage of the system.

Per transaction, you can add up to $3,000.

It happens a day after the release of iOS 11.0.2 update. You can force the update by visiting Settings General Software Update. You can not add more than $3,000 per day.

Accept the Terms and Conditions by tapping "Agree" down in the bottom-right corner.

Apple said in a tweet that it would roll out Apple Pay Cash to iPhone users over this week.

But in case you're not quite sure how to get started, Apple has published a short how-to video on its YouTube channel.

Want to know more about using Apple Pay Cash?

Apple has shared reports on their App Store support page showing statistics of their of their current devices and the percentages of which devices are using specific operating systems. Note that setup also requires re-entering your credit card digits. That cash can be used for purchases or it can be transferred to a bank account. In all, however, the setup isn't more involved than it is with Venmo, though Facebook Payments is easier than either.

If all of those describe you, then read on. Anyone using the iMessage and Wallet apps will be able to receive and send money as soon as they update to iOS 11.2 and restart their devices.

Users can use their iPhone or Apple Watch to transfer funds directly to another person in just a few taps. For sending this dollar, I paid a 3 percent fee (the same as with Venmo and other services), but that's because the payment was via credit card. If not, it will use the debit card you linked to during the setup process. The chat entry says Pending until the recipient receives the funds.

You'll have to enter your bank account information, including your routing and account numbers, to link Apple Pay Cash to your bank account. Google Wallet, also available for iOS, adds the ability to split payments among multiple recipients.

Apple debuted Apple Pay Cash with the iOS 11.2 update last Wednesday, Dec. 5.

You can use that balance either by dumping it back into a connected bank account or to pay for something else via Apple Pay or Apple Pay Cash.

Apple Pay Cash is now live for USA users, allowing iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad owners to transfer money to virtual Pay Cash cards. If you're using Apple's system and want to pay an Android user, you're going to have to hand over dirty old dollar bills, for now.

Tap on your Apple Pay Cash card. Each person to person payment and purchase made with Apple Pay Cash is authenticated with Face ID on iPhone X, Touch ID on other iPhone and iPad models or a secure passcode on Apple Watch.

To set up Apple Pay Cash, open the Wallet app and select the Apple Pay Cash card at the top.
