He congratulated Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for working very hard to improve the living standard of the people of the state through execution of projects that had direct bearing on them. This has indicated that I can still win an election in Kano.

Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, who served as Kwankwanso's commissioner for inter-governmental affairs, told Vanguard, last night, that the former governor and his associates were not invited for the functions relating to the President's visit.

Speaking in Kano, on Thursday, the President said if elections were to be free and fair, "people of Kano are in my pocket".

"They were not elected to blame but to serve the people".

He stated this at the palace of the emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, apparently in response to the mammoth crowd that gathered to welcome him to the state.

The president won the 2015 presidential election on the fourth attempt, having contested in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections.

The "commissioning" of the release of the prisoners took place at the Kurmawa Central Prison in Kano.

"The support has been consistent, so I don't have words to express my appreciation to the people of Kano state".

The President made the commendation at the inauguration of a multi million naira Giginyu Hospital, named after Buhari.

"We have a number of projects that are on-going and we hope you will visit the state in near future in order to commission such projects", Ganduje said.

The 500 inmates were either pardoned or set free upon the payment of fines by the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
