Mayor of London Sadiq Khan accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew met the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore on Wednesday and discussed matters of mutual interest & bilateral relations.

The mayor was received by officials from the Punjab government upon his arrival and is now holding a meeting with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Model Town.

Khan was received on the Pakistani side of the border by Mayor Lahore Col (retd) Mubashar and senior government officials, Geo News reported. Khan is expected to stop over in Karachi and Islamabad.

Khan is the first ever mayor of London to make an official visit to Pakistan.

"After celebrating 70 years of Pakistan this year, I look forward to the next 70 years to celebrate the friendship between London and Pakistan".

The London Mayor took to Twitter and thanked Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif for the hospitality provided during his stay in Lahore during the Pakistan tour as part of the mission to strengthen economic ties with the South Asian countries.

Meanwhile, members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Amritsar district submitted a memorandum to the Mayor of London, seeking direct British Airways flights between the holy city of Punjab and London, to facilitate personal and business travel.

The visit would also seek to boost investment and cultural exchange programmes between London and the sub-continent. "Many thanks to the Mayor of Lahore, Mubashir Javed, for hosting a fantastic evening of culture to mark my arrival in Pakistan".
