U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital on Wednesday and begin preparations to move the U.S. Embassy to the city, three senior administration officials confirmed to Anadolu Agency late Tuesday.

"The Islamic world will undoubtedly stand against this plot and the Zionists will receive a big blow from this action and dear Palestine will be liberated", Khamenei said.

"That they claim they want to announce Jerusalem as the capital of occupied Palestine is due to their incompetence and failure", Khamenei told various Iranian officials according to his official website in comments reported by Reuters.

Declaring Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moving the USA embassy there will "lead to a substantial change in the American position on the Palestinian issue", Abbas wrote, "and will significantly disrupt the efforts to revive the peace process".

The ambassadors from Muslims countries are assembled in Iran to mark the "week of unity" declared by Iranian former Leader Ayatollah Khomeini to integrate the two major sects of Islam, Shia and Sunni.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said earlier that the United States was trying to destabilize the region and start a war to protect Israel's security.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made a tweet in Arabic language stating that "al-Quds (Jerusalem) will remain Arabic and Islamic".

The US provocative decision to recognize the city of Quds as the integrated capital of the Zionist regime will not bring peace and stability to the region, and on the contrary, it will reveal US government's intentions and discredit this country's claims in the eyes of parties who still believe in the US impartiality in the peace negotiations.

Trump's move was a "clear violation of global resolutions" and that Jerusalem was 'an inseparable part of Palestine'.

"We believe, given the current conditions, all Islamic nations must become united and take a serious step in countering this wrong, illegal, provocative and gravely unsafe move by the U.S.", Rouhani said.
