Earlier this week Stanton and his representatives met with executives of both the Giants and the Cardinals, Stanton was present in the meetings.

"We will explore every option out there to make our organization better", Jeter said Tuesday on WINZ-AM, the Marlins' flagship radio station. "We are waiting for you!" the late night host says, pitching his hometown to the most famous non-free agent/free agent in Major League Baseball history. We're still gathering information. Earlier on Wednesday it was reported that San Francisco expects to have a decision from the Giants by the end of the week.

"The specifics of the deal are not something that we feel comfortable discussing, but ultimately our hope is that if he does choose to come here, we'll be able to fold him in with a winning club", Evans said. By all appearances, the Marlins are willing to take a less-than-premium return in terms of young talent in order to offload the vast majority of that remaining obligation.

"But again it's a tough decision for him".

Having some doubts about the Giants is only natural.

"I said it last week and I still believe it, it's about 60-40 (percent) that Stanton comes to the Giants", Schulman said. By telling Stanton that if he rejects a trade, he's going to be part of a long, messy rebuilding process.

Stanton is owed $295 million over the final decade of his contract, including $25 million in 2018. Outfield prospect Alex Verdugo may also play his way to Chavez Ravine for good at some point next year.

MLB's annual winter meetings begin on December 10. He had a lot of questions for us and I thought our meeting went well. Michael and I will be in constant communication. He enjoys playing at AT&T Park and the fans really like him.
