Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Patty Murray, D-Wash., Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., all called on Franken to step down. "It's clear to me that this has been a deeply harmful, persistent problem and a clear pattern over a long period of time. It's time for him to step aside".

Radio host Leeann Tweeden was the first woman to come forward, accusing Franken of kissing and groping her while on a USO tour in 2006.

"Hearing Donald Trump say essentially the same thing that Al Franken said to me, which was 'It's my right as an entertainer, ' that was a real trigger", she told Politico.

The double standard is not only coming from Democrats, but also from a left-leaning national media that seems eager to dismiss each of Franken's seven accusers even as they obsess over Conyers and - of course - Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore.

The woman told Politico she just wants Franken "to acknowledge that his behavior towards her and other women was intentional".

A spokesman for Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., had no immediate comment. He's repeatedly promised to "cooperate completely" with any investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee into his past behavior.

Franken, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by several other women, denied the latest accusation.

In a statement sent Wednesday to the Star Tribune, Franken called this allegation "categorically not true and the idea that I would claim this as my right as an entertainer is preposterous".

Mr Franken, a former Saturday Night Live comedian, has been accused of groping and sexually harassing seven women, including a United States military veteran.

As reported by Politico, a former Democratic congressional aide claims the incident took place after one of Franken's radio shows before he was a senator. She released a photo with her statement, that appears to show Franken grabbing toward her chest while she slept.
