A biopic on mob boss John Gotti starring John Travolta has dropped from Lionsgate's schedule 10 days before its release.

That "Gotti" biopic with John Travolta you were planning to see next week? Per Entertainment Weekly, Lionsgate sold the movie back to its production company, Emmett/Furla/Oasis. The Lionsgate Premiere release would have been day-and-date for theatrical, VOD and streaming. A new distribution deal is expected to be found, but it looks unlikely that the film will make its scheduled December 15 release. The movie, directed by "Entourage" star Kevin Connolly, was shot mostly in Cincinnati in the summer of 2016.

The Tracking Board, which first reported the story, notes that finding a new distributor shouldn't present a big problem.

Lem Dobbs and Leo Rossi penned the script for the film, which also features Travolta's wife Kelly Preston and daughter Ella Bleu Travolta, along with Stacy Keach, Chris Mulkey, Lydia Hull and Spencer Lofranco.

SFGate's The Wrap reports that producers bought back the film because they wanted a "wide release" - not one at select theaters only, as Lionsgate planned.
