Sengupta told PTI that he expects handset makers to bring smartphones based on Android Oreo (Go) edition in early 2018. Google Assistant will be available for the new Reliance JioPhone, and details on whether existing JioPhone users will receive the feature aren't available as of now. The first version of the Android Go will be called Android Oreo (Go Edition) and it will be available later today as a part of the Android 8.1 release. Android Police first reported about the feature, which was visible for an Indian user in version 9.67.1 of Maps. You can more about it in my original report. It's a new effort by Google to launch budget-friendly Android smartphones for developing markets. Today, Google officially introduced all these apps and revealed that these are primarily meant for the Android Go platform and will come pre-installed on the devices running on Android Oreo (Go Edition). At the moment, a preview is available on the Google Play Store in India and Indonesia. Yet, we have over 900 million Indians who aren't connected to Internet. Apps like Google Go, Files Go, YouTube Go, Gmail Go and more are very lightweight and optimized to save data - Google claims that users can save up to 40% data in Google Go compared to the full version of the app. Google Maps director Martha Welsh made an official announcement at Google for India event. Like the skills on Amazon Alexa, you will be able to use actions on Google Assistant to interact with services like the BookMyShow Goibibo, SBI and more. It was launched a couple of weeks ago, allowing users to manage their storage and also transfer files without an internet connection. The Google Assistant version for Jio Phone will be available in English and Hindi, and respond to voice search queries. Sengupta appreciated customer's trust on the massive success of Google Tez in India.

And it makes sense: India is the world's biggest two-wheeler market, where motorbikes still outsell cars by seven to one. Google at its Google For India event announced Bill payments will come to Google Tez app in India Soon. The company demoed the feature on the stage at the event and it seems pretty simple. Tez will also remind users when certain bills are due. "More than 70 billers will be supported, including utilities and direct-to- home service providers", he said.
