The Germany worldwide, whose present contract with Arsenal is set to expire next summer, has been heavily linked with leaving the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.

"I still have a great relationship with Mesut", Tonnies told German outlet Kicker. "But it will certainly not happen next season".

For Alexis Sanchez's goal, the role that Ozil played in the build-up may have been overlooked by some.

Now, according to the infamous Barcelona-friendly rumor peddlers Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club is turning their attention away from Philippe Coutinho, and toward Arsenal's Mesut Ozil.

"The quality of the contract has to be good, I'm convinced they love the club, they love the team, ' Arsene Wenger, speaking after the victory, said of Ozil and Alexis Sanchez".

However, a surprise new suitor has now entered the frame to sign the Ozil, with Bundesilga outfit Schalke confirming that they would love to bring the 29-year-old back to the club where it all started. I know them well and I know when these guys go on the pitch they want to win the game and they have shown that commitment again today. [Quality of the contract] is part of it.

Ozil and Sanchez, who are both in the final year of their contracts, have been offered £250,000 per week and £300,000 per week respectively to stay at the Emirates.

The Bundesliga side may not have the resources that Arsenal have but they're clearly remaining chipper and poked fun at the Gunners' wealth of talent on Twitter on Tuesday.

"Is money the sticking point?"
