ENGLAND followed up their goalless draw against Germany with another disciplined defensive display to keep Brazil at bay last night, with Gareth Southgate's youth policy again showing some promising signs.

England earned a 0-0 draw in Friday's game against Germany.

"I think and hope that the English public have seen that these boys have given everything, they've played with pride and passion", Southgate said after England defended their way to a second 0-0 in the space of five days.

"Young players digging in, we just couldn't move the ball as well as the other night".

"Tonight we showed resilience, guts and some really outstanding defending against a top, top team". I am incredibly proud of what the players have done.

JOE GOMEZ will start for England against Brazil as he replaces injured Gary Cahill for the Wembley clash.

"We were playing the best team in the world at the moment, I thought they were brilliant", Hart said.

Brazil, who cruised through their South American qualifying campaign to reach next year's World Cup, hardly threatened in the first half with their best chance coming late on when Fernandinho grazed the post. "Joe (Gomez) played against one of the best players in the world (Neymar) and was excellent".

"It's not a win but it's a good performance".

Pitched against the top two teams in the world rankings, Southgate was delighted with the resilient nature of his side's performances as they look to put down solid foundations ahead of next year's World Cup.

Gomez added: "It's a great experience to play at this level, especially against a team like Brazil with all the individuals they have". Southgate was also quick to praise his defence for its work in securing a fourth clean sheet in a row against high-class Wembley opponents.
