"Before the citizenship cloud hovered over Malcolm Roberts' head, I had already approached Fraser Anning to contest the seat of Gladstone in the upcoming Queensland State election".

Hanson says she also tried to get in touch but "those efforts fell on deaf ears" and she instead communicated via his brother, making it clear she felt it best if he stood aside to pave the way for the return of Roberts, who finally renounced his British citizenship late a year ago. As a result, he and his staff members were not allowed to enter the One Nation party room.

She said former staff to Mr Roberts had made contact with the Queensland-based business consultant several months ago, encouraging Senator Anning to move to the Australian Conservatives should Mr Roberts lose his seat.

The statement goes on in quite some detail to explain Hanson's unsuccessful attempts to contact Anning during the High Court process.

However, eyebrows were raised when he was accompanied into the chamber not by Hanson or any of his One Nation colleagues, but by Liberal Democrats senator David Leyonhjelm and Cory Bernardi.

Speculation now is whether Senator Anning will join the parties of the two senators who this morning walked in with him.

"Mr Anning was advised that David Goodridge, Leon Ashby, Richard Howard and Boston White were not welcome to this morning's party room meeting, because of their disloyalty to their former employer and myself", Hanson said.

Senator Anning issued a media release recently, demanding Senator Hanson pledge her support for him, and on Saturday publicly questioned whether her advisers approved of him.

It will reduce the power of One Nation in the Senate, giving it three votes on the crossbench instead of four. "If I'm no longer a One Nation senator, it is because Pauline has expelled me by press release".

ONE Nation matriarch Pauline Hanson has shut down claims her state leader and Member for Buderim Steve Dickson is the "underdog".

He said Burston and Georgiou had told him Hanson demanded he not employ the staffers - he had said this was unacceptable.

The two One Nation Senators in the chamber did not appear to congratulate their new colleague, instead shaking hands with the new Greens Senators sworn in today.

"This was news to me!".

Senator Hanson was noticeably absent when Senator Anning was sworn in to replace Mr Roberts.

Roberts is running for a seat in the Queensland election.

"I indicated to Harry Anning at the time, that given the work Malcolm Roberts had achieved as Chair of the banking inquiry and his role in challenging climate change, it would be in the Federal Party's and Australia's best interest for Malcolm Roberts to be returned to the Senate".

He had been aware of the tensions earlier but had been told by a One Nation senator at the weekend that all was well with Anning.
