Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has recalled when he confronted Jose Mourinho after the Manchester United manager dubbed him a "cat".

The 29-year-old has not featured at global level since being charged by police in relation to an alleged blackmail plot involving teammate Mathieu Valbuena two years ago.

Initially sidelined due to his name being caught up in an ongoing French police investigation into alleged extortion of his global teammate Mathieu Valbuena, Benzema has remained absent despite Deschamps since insisting the forward was still in his thoughts. Karim Benzema joined the Portuguese from Lyon in 2010, and the duo have been at the centre of Madrid's attack for years now.

The Frenchman has racked up nearly 200 goals across all competitions for Los Blancos, adding 2 La Liga crowns, 2 Copa Del Reys, 3 Champions Leagues, 3 UEFA Super Cups and a pair of FIFA Club World Cups to his trophy cabinet in the process.

"It's a vague story".

Benzema said,"At Real, I score, but when the guy who is next to you scores 50 per season (you cannot do anything), it's different from how I played at Lyon".

"I have no problems with any player in the France team". You mustn't be silly, though. "But, personally, I think what is external to football you have to leave out". It's not a question of calling him or not.

"I told him what I had to say, it took an hour". There are some that I come across and it's always good to see them. "He is someone I respect, but he turned his back on me, it's hurtful".

The former striker told Canal+ that Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to bring Benzema to Old Trafford and that he was second choice to the Frenchman.

Benzema has often worked in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo, but he says he loves playing alongside him.

" Ronaldo and I, we get on well".

Benzema and Ronaldo participated in seven La Liga matches and scored one goal each.

"He is able to play one-touch football".
