Jernigan has been a key addition to a defensive line that has helped lead the Eagles leage-leading rushing defense.

With the Philadelphia Eagles on their bye week, Howie Roseman and the Birds' front office did some work, agreeing to a four-year contract extension with DT Tim Jernigan, the team announced on Thursday. They signed Cox to a six-year deal worth over $100 million in 2016 with over $36 million fully guaranteed.

Jernigan was acquired by the Eagles via trade with the Baltimore Ravens prior to the 2017 NFL Draft.

"Since the day he entered the building, Tim has been a difference maker both on the field and around the building", the Eagles said in a statement.

Jernigan's first-half production comes after he was unable to hide his excitement over playing in defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz's scheme, shortly after landing with the Eagles back in April. "He's a tough, physical and relentless player who brings energy and enthusiasm every day".

The Philadelphia Eagles are the best team in the National Football League entering Week 10 at 8-1, and they've locked up one of the key veteran players who helped them get to this point. More than $62 million in guarantees is now earmarked for two players on the interior of the defensive line.

The former second-round pick from Florida State has started all nine games for the Eagles this season, recording 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks in the process. Jernigan has 1.5 this year, putting him on pace for around three, which would be his fewest in any of his previous three seasons.
