Ivana Clifford: Why I cooked my roommate's ferret in the oven

Manchester police arrived at the apartment about 2:40 a.m. Wednesday after firefighters removed a "burnt item" from the apartment.

Firefighters determined the source was the apartment's stove and found the pet dead inside with burn marks.

When questioned by police, two people renting the apartment told police about a "temporary guest" who had already vacated the premises, but who was still standing outside the building among other displaced tenants.

Ivana Clifford, 26, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after she admitted to killing the ferret. Murray told WHDH that Clifford threw Angel, the 2-year-old ferret, in the oven and turned up the heat.

To lose a ferret is like losing a kid.

Officers were called to the apartment early Wednesday after the roommate and the roommate's boyfriend woke up to the noise from the smoke alarm and saw heavy smoke inside the apartment. Murray tearfully told NBC 12 News.

Murray said she believes the attack was planned because the ferret is young and still "nips". "It was just devastating", she said as tears ran down her face.

Judge Gillian Abramson told Clifford, "These allegations display a profound sense of sadism". She is being held in custody on $10,000 bail. Clifford's lawyer, Callan Maynard, said, Clifford's husband was "very concerned for her health and her welfare, and being incarcerated because she is 32 weeks pregnant, your honor". Murray said, "I don't understand why she would do such a thing".
