Paul Manafort accompanied by his lawyer Kevin Downing, right, arrives at U.S. Federal Court, in Washington, on November 2, 2017.

In the court filing, Manafort's lawyers estimated that real estate to be worth $8 million, meaning he would be on the hook for $12.5 million in assets if he violated his bail. Manafort and Gates pleaded not guilty to charges unsealed in a 12-count indictment on October 31.

After last week's indictment against Manafort and Gates for alleged money laundering and other financial crimes involving their now-defunct global consulting business, Manafort was fitted with an ankle-bracelet for global Positioning System monitoring and placed under home confinement while the judge set a $10 million unsecured bond.

The pair were charged in a 12-count indictment with conspiracy to launder money, making false statements and other offenses in connection with their work advising a Russia-friendly political party in Ukraine. Manafort got a second passport so he could apply for visas when the first was being used, and applied for a third when he mistakenly thought the first was lost, they said.

The case is U.S. v. Manafort, 17-cv-201, U.S. District Court, District of Columbia. "We're talking about flight".

On Saturday, Manafort's lawyers proposed that he be allowed to travel in those three states and Washington and pledged as collateral his properties at Trump Tower and on Baxter Street in New York City and in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and $4.5 million in life insurance policies. The special counsel's prosecution team includes Greg Andres, Kyle Freeney and Andrew Weissman.

But his wife and daughter may need to offer up their own assets to secure Manafort's bond, Manafort attorney Kevin Downing said.

It was also revealed on Monday that former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to making a false statement to the Federal Bureau of Investigation after he lied about his interactions with foreign officials close to the Russian government, the campaign's clearest connection so far to Russia's efforts to meddle in the 2016 election.

The request that a federal judge modify his conditions of release says he wants to be allowed to travel between Florida, New York and Virginia, where he has homes, as well as Washington, D.C.

Defense attorney Kevin Downing said Manafort's worldwide consulting and telecommunications businesses require him to travel to New York City and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Manafort's lawyers say it's worth $6 million and he has a $3 million mortgage on it.

"The government is not prepared to consent to a change in the current conditions of release at least until Manafort provides a full accounting of his net worth and the value of the assets that he proposes to pledge as part of his bail package", special counsel prosecutors wrote.

"We're not talking about dangerousness here", Jackson said Monday.
