The release of "Padmavati" might be delayed further as the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has requested the Election Commission (EC) to postpone the release of the film owing to the fears of tension ahead of the polls in Gujarat. While some unfortunate incidents hampered the shoot, sending the schedule of this Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh starrer haywire, it seems the release might also face some hiccups.

Indian films distributed have included "Drishyam", drama "Margarita with a Straw", "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" and "Kahaani".

Padmavati is co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom 18 Pictures. The picture will be given a worldwide day and date release from December 1.

Padmavati depicts the story of Rani Padmavathi, the legendary queen, and her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh, a warrior king who is ready to die for his kingdom, and Sultan Alauddin Khilji, an obsessive invader.

Bhansali first directed Padmavati as an opera in 2008 for the Theatre Du Chatelet in Paris, which was based on the 1923 opera written by Albert Rousselan. The production of Bhansali travelled to Rome and also was performed at the festival of Spoleto in Italy. He said, "Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures to exclusively distribute #Padmavati in all global markets, outside India".

Ajit Andhare, Chief Operating Officer, Viacom18 Motion Pictures, said in a statement: "I am very proud to announce that Paramount Pictures will lead the global release of our epic film "Padmavati". What took the look to a whole new level was the fact that even though a pristine white churidar does not really make sense with that kurta and dupatta, it definitely gave some graceful pep to the whole outfit. Details about the film's US screen count are still awaited.

Andrew Cripps the global president said; "Bollywood films are gaining popularity in various worldwide territories and the market is only growing". "At this point, we are happy with the reactions to the film".
