Kollam: The iron bridge, several years old, is located inside the KMML complex and runs over a canal.

The bridge walkway collapsed during morning hours in Chavara of Kollam district, about 80 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala.

The collapsed bridge across the national waterway connects the KMML complex to its adjacent mineral separation (MS) unit.

The death toll in Monday's bridge collapse in southern Indian state of Kerala has risen to three, besides injuries to 50 others, police said.

The bridge had been waiting for major fix for a long time, locals said.

While local accounts said a person identified as Shyamala Devi was killed in the incident, police said no casualties were yet reported.

The injured people have been shifted to the nearby hospitals for treatment.

Earlier in the morning, the body of Kallada native Syamala (56), an employee of KMML, was recovered.

The bodies of Ansaleena and Annamma were found when the collapsed portion of the bridge was being lifted using JCB.
