One such report surfaced Thursday on in which columnist Dennis Dodd said he had learned that Penn State officials are preparing in case Texas A&M makes a run at Franklin if that university parts ways with head coach Kevin Sumlin.

Franklin guided the Nittany Lions to the Rose Bowl last season, and he was handsomely rewarded for doing so-in August, he signed a six-year contract extension worth almost $20 million. Following the festivities, attendees can then catch all the action from Columbus on the Levitt screen as the now No. 3-ranked Nittany Lions take on the No. 9-ranked Buckeyes. The free event presented by Penn State Lehigh Valley and ArtsQuest starts at 3 p.m. and includes the big game shown live on the Levitt Pavilion's large outdoor television screen.

But because of the way Texas A&M has played in recent weeks, the Aggies might not be getting rid of Sumlin this winter.

Since the loss to UCLA, A&M has only lost an eight-point game to Alabama, the Crimson Tide's closest game to date.

If A&M fired Sumlin after this season, Sumlin will be owed the remaining $10 million left on a contract that expires at the end of 2019. With two more wins, Sumlin will become the fifth coach in program history to have at least 50 victories.
