Anne Cameron, 79, was reported missing from the Ozcare aged care facility at Port Douglas on Tuesday.

Police believe the dementia sufferer may have been taken by a crocodile after becoming disoriented when she wandered into a dense area of bushland.

A major search has been underway since yesterday with the clothing items located at the isolated creek today.

The woman's granddaughter Isabella Eggins posted on social media that the family "have the firm belief that my nan Anne Cameron has passed away in tragic circumstances".

Far North police acting inspector Ed Lukin said "Because of the proximity of these items and this unknown material located by this creek bank we can not rule out a croc attack".

'We located some biological matter which we believe to be human remains.

"There will be forensic tests done on those remains, but I will stress that there are no other missing persons in the Port Douglas area".

He said reports the woman's clothes had been folded were "inaccurate".

Crocodiles in the region are territorial and known to be extremely aggressive. He was treated for wounds to the chest and arm.

Lee de Paauw, 18, injured after he was dared to jump into an Innisfail river in the middle of the night.

Authorities said that Cameron has a medical condition for which she needs to take daily medication and that she had only recently moved to the area, meaning she was likely unfamiliar with her surroundings. She was last seen in Craiglie, near Port Douglas and is described as slim, 165cm tall with short grey hair.

Noel Ramage, 75, drowned when a croc capsized his "tinnie" at Leaders Creek, NT.

A crocodile reportedly tried to drag Peter Rowsell, 19, from a tent by his foot at Palm Creek in the Northern Territory.

It is feared that Canberra woman Anne Cameron has been killed by crocodiles in far north Queensland.
