Two militants were reportedly killed in the encounter. "Two terrorists were killed and two air force Garud paras were martyred in the action", he said.

"Live situational training" involves "on the job" training with the Garuds learning to combat militants in a real-life scenario, a concept that germinated in the aftermath of the Pathankot airbase attack in January 2016, after four heavily-armed Pakistan-trained terrorists infiltrated into the high-security airbase that is home to high-value IAF assets.

Two air force commandos and two attackers were killed during a gunbattle Wednesday in occupied Kashmir, the army said, during an upsurge in violence in the disputed region.

The encounter began in the wee hours after the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hajin area of Bandipora district in the early hours following information about presence of militants in the area. Both belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit, he said.

The injured personnel were evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, where they succumbed to injuries. Apolice official said two AK rifles, one pistol, one hand grenade 12 AK magazines and 75 rounds were recovered from the scene of the encounter.

The need for a dedicated force was felt when militants attacked two air bases in Jammu and Kashmir in 2001. The security forces have been giving a befitting reply and foiling all attempts to vitiate atmosphere in the state.

"He was killed in a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operation Group, local police, the CRPF and the Army", he had said. "The Chinar Corps commander and all ranks salute the martyrs and offer condolences to the bereaved families".

According to the police, the slain militants are Abu Bakr alias Ali Baba, a Pakistani national, and Nasrullah Mir, a local.

The police maintain that almost 25 militants were active in Bandipora district and a group of seven terrorists, led by LeT's Mehmood Bhai, a Pakistani national, is active in Hajin area.
