Jets-Patriots storylines to watch: What's wrong with Muhammad Wilkerson?

The Jets failed to establish a run game making it harder on every part of the offense The Jets failed to establish a run game making it harder on every part of the offense

The Patriots are 4-3 at MetLife Stadium, and Brady, who supplanted Drew Bledsoe as New England's quarterback in Week 2 of the 2001 season against the Jets, is 24-8 against them. For any of our very young fans that might be new, it's the first of two annual weeks when the Gang Green take on their hated rivals from MA.

To their credit, most of the Jets acknowledged after Sunday's sloppy victory over the winless Browns that they'll have to play much better to have shot to beat the visiting Patriots this week. From the "Butt Fumble" to the Santonio Holmes catch in the corner of the end zone and everything in between, there have been memorable moments.

Despite David Harris' lack of production, Bill Belichick approves of the linebacker's team contributions as a good teammate and leader. But the games have often found a way to be memorable.

It's been quite a mind-boggling National Football League year so far having been just over a quarter of the way done with the season.

With Gronkowski sidelined, the Patriots game plan had to be adjusted. A victory in NY would, with the Bills on bye this week, propel the Patriots to the top of their division. The only thing the Jets were competing for was the first overall pick in the 2018 draft. The New York Jets are playing for first. That remains to be seen. The Patriots certainly are not pleased with being tied with two other teams in the division. The Patriots have the same record, for anyone who hasn't noticed. This should allow the Jets offense to get going against a defense that has looked incredibly un-Belichik-ian so far this season. I am not going so far as to predict a victory like I said earlier in the week.

But ahead of Harris' first matchup against his former team Sunday, he's essentially a non-factor. They had a big special teams game against Jacksonville where [Lac] Edwards changed field position and then [Jeremy] Kerley returned a punt and then Catanzaro kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime.

They are the number one scoring team in the league, but only one of their three wins is by more than ten points. Now wouldn't THAT be a kick in the trousers? Then they lost to the Carolina Panthers due to terrible defensive play, only to have the defense help them defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the next week.

Josh McCown has been a big surprise for Jets fans this season. 447.2 yards allowed per game is good for dead last. They don't make a lot of mistakes. "It's a quarterback friendly type of offense like New Orleans runs, what the Jets run is similar to that, is based on that". After the Jets lost on the road to the Bills and the Raiders, they came away with wins over the Dolphins, Jaguars and the Browns. All this means is that there will be openings for McCown and company. He's got his hands on some balls at the line of scrimmage.
