Meanwhile, LG has been working hard to catch up to Samsung in OLED panel manufacturing, and Apple is said to have increased its partnership with LG Display, which has been supplying LCDs to the iPhone maker for years.

It's also been reported that LG's parts division has a similar team working on internal components for the device. For those unaware, Samsung is now the sole supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone X. The report adds that Samsung can be expected to be supplier of displays for Apple next year too. Sketches of Samsung's phone appeared in patents earlier this year, and only last month a certificate referring to the handset was spotted at South Korea's version of the FCC, suggesting a production version isn't far away.

There was a varient of this rumor that surfaced back in May about Apple preparing a foldable smartphone with LG. Apple typically kickstarts new iPhone projects at least a year before launch, sharing key features like the screen with suppliers. It is in the E6 that LG may manufacture the foldable display panels for Apple. The company is now supplying its first batch of its foldable panels to few Chinese handset makers as well as to its parent company. Lastly our cover graphic shows an Apple patent figure of a foldable iPhone from their granted patent for such a device issued in November 2016.

Claims in the Korean technology media claim Apple has tasked LG with creating a bending and foldable screen for a future iPhone. If that's true, it could mean that Apple's foldable iPhone won't be out until after Samsung releases its first foldable smartphone, which is supposedly slated for release next year.

Hedge funds and other institutional investors have recently made changes to their positions in the stock. On the other hand, Samsung is already ahead in the foldable phone race.

Thoughts about a foldable iPhone? There still are years to go before we will see the foldable iPhone out in the wild. Feel free to sound off in the comments section below!
