Reports have claimed that the German global has already reached a pre-agreement with the Red Devils to join them on a free move once his contract with the Gunners expires next summer.

Mesut Ozil should prioritise a move back to Germany should he decide to leave Arsenal instead of joining Manchester United, according to Karl-Heinz Riedle.

That update is that the talks between Ozil and Arsenal are actually progressing positively which could lead to a new deal.

The representative of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has confirmed the Germany worldwide wishes to remain in the Premier League for the next two or three seasons.

Discussions began well over a year ago about a contract that expires next summer when Ozil's status was higher in the team but now, with his client having played only seven minutes in the club's last six unbeaten games, Dr Erkut Sogut has made more encouraging noises.

"Our contact with Arsenal continues and we are moving in a positive direction", he explained.

The other way of looking at the statement would be to rule out a move to Catalan club Barca, with the likelihood that Man United would be leading the chase for him should we fail to agree terms with the former Real Madrid star.

This is sure to go down well with Arsenal fans, who will be relieved to hear that their most creative player is likely to sign a new contract at the club.

Will Ozil thrive without Alexis in the side next season? Would his extension be a good advert in bringing further top players to the club?
