Rs 153 Plan: This plan offers 500 MB of 4G data per day and is valid for 2 days. Talking about the device, it is the Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone which is already available in the market without this offer.

Under the partnership, the Karbonn A40 Indian is now effectively priced at just Rs 1399.

However the actual payment for the phone is much higher. "This is yet another step in our ongoing journey to deeply understand customers and bring innovation that delights them". To get cashback of Rs. 500 on your purchase, you have to recharge with at least Rs. 3,000 in 18 months.

So, basically the customer needs to spend Rs 8983 (Rs 2899 for phone and Rs 6084 for recharges) to own the Karbonn A40 India phone and use Airtel services over next 3 years.

While the JioPhone has to be returned to get the Rs. 1,500 cashback, the Airtel 4G Phone users keep the device with them even after claiming the cashback amount.

In case the customer does not wish to opt for Rs 169 bundled plan, she/he has the flexibility of doing recharges of any denomination and validity as per individual requirements. The second phase gets you Rs. 1,000 cashback on recharge worth Rs. 3,000 more in the next 18 months. Bharti Airtel is rallying behind Reliance Jio in terms of 4G market share. The partnership between Airtel and Karbonn is part of Airtel's "Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone" initiative and the company has announced that it will partner with multiple mobile handset manufacturers to create an "open ecosystem" of affordable 4G smartphones.

Earlier in July Airtel had cited in an investor call that it would look to partner with mobile handset manufacturers to bring 'bundled 4G smartphone options to the market'.

Another notable aspect of the new Karbonn A40 Indian is that it comes with dual-SIM slots offering consumers the freedom to choose the network of their choice, whereas the JioPhone users have no other option than Reliance Jio.

Airtel India has partnered with Karbonn to launch a budget 4G VoLTE smartphone, and this also indicates that the network provider has stepped into the VoLTE segment. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box and is powered by a 1.3Ghz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM.

Moreover, the Karbonn A40 Indian also comes with a 2 MP camera at the back and a 0.3 MP camera on the front. It has 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage.

Airtel will be competing with Reliance Jio and BSNL in the 4G phone space. The device extracts power from a 1,400mAh battery.

"We are delighted to partner with Karbonn to remove barriers to smartphone adoption and enable millions of Indians to leapfrog to a full touchscreen smartphone experience", said Raj Pudipeddi, Director - Consumer Business & CMO, Bharti Airtel.

The specifications for the Karbonn A40 Indian are modest.
