Which is of course what was also said previously, but that was before first Rupert Wyatt and then Doug Liman chose to vacate the director's chair. There'd been talk of Tatum taking the role for a while now (with rumors originally positing that his X-Men character would be introduced in Apocalypse), but the actor always maintained that he wanted Gambit to be introduced with a proper amount of time to fill in his backstory. Unfortunately, quite a huge chunk of what we wrote was to do with directors joining and then abandoning the project.

We will bring you more on the Gambit movie as we get it. Thus far, Verbinski has maintained a balance of big budget projects and smaller, darker indie films, making him an exciting choice moving forward. Verbinski's other credits include The Weather Man, Rango, The Lone Ranger and A Cure for Wellness.

"Pirates of the Caribbean" filmmaker might direct the new X-men spinoff. Tatum will also be producing the film along with Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg. LeBeau is a master thief with a southern-charm and distinct Cajun accent hailing from New Orleans. He also knows how to instill a certain rhythm effective in his films and give them a real epic dimension while the man remains surprisingly under-estimated in the 7th art to the City of Angels.

Whether those reports are true or not, the film's script comes from Joshua Zetumer, who penned the Robocop remake (which I actually thought had some really good ideas) and the recent Patriots Day.
