Chase Headley had three hits and an RBI for NY and is hitting.365 during a season-high 13-game hitting streak.

Orioles: CF Adam Jones was given the night off, sore after three games on artificial turf this week at Toronto. NY was atop the wild-card race, four games ahead of Minnesota.

NY doubled its lead when the fourth began with a double by Ellsbury and a walk by Todd Frazier.

Kris Bryant added two RBIs as the Cubs extended their NL Central lead to three games over Milwaukee and St. Louis, with the Cardinals coming to Wrigley Field for three games this weekend (see full recap).

"To have somebody that can go out and dominate a game I feel like is extremely important", Chase Headley said. But circumstance and necessity dictated that the infielder be sent back down until Saturday, when the Yankees recalled Andujar and pitcher Jonathan Holder before facing the Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

Baltimore is pitching to a 16.43 ERA in the first three games of this series, continuing a trend of sub-par pitching no matter where they face the Yankees.

Have scored at least 12R in five of their seven home games vs. Baltimore in 2017. "That's a bad combination". "We've made a lot of really bad pitches that should end up in bleachers and we walk the people before they hit them". He's done just that, and appears to be hitting his stride at the right time. Certainly, Gregorius didn't look like the answer in his first season with the Yankees, hitting.265 with nine home runs in 2015.

Both Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo didn't play, the first time in Trumbo's two seasons with the Orioles that both sat out.

Severino has moved ahead of Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia in the Yankees rotation, gaining the confidence of his teammates. Sonny Gray has been an ace in the past with the A's, and has a 2.66 ERA in eight starts since joining the Yankees, with a 3-5 record thanks to poor run support and some shoddy defensive work behind him.

Gregorius, who is hitting.375 (21-for-56) against Baltimore this season, hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning off Gabriel Ynoa (1-2) and hit a two-run homer in the fifth off Miguel Castro before lifting another sacrifice fly off Richard Bleier. Two pitches after Judge drew his 113th walk, Gregorius blasted a 1-0 pitch into the right field seats. He improved to 8-7 with a 3.00 ERA this season.

Jimenez is 1-6 with a 6.88 ERA in his last 11 appearances (10 starts) since the All-Star break.

Still, Ynoa pitched well for his second Orioles start, allowing two earned runs to a Yankees offense that had scored in double digits five times in the first seven meetings betweenthe teams in NY. He allowed three earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks in six innings during a 3-2 loss at Cleveland.

In Detroit, Mikie Mahtook delivered a game-ending RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning, helping the Tigers stop a six-game skid.

Chicago's offense helped overcome a shaky debut by pitcher Jen-Ho Tseng to complete a three-game sweep.
