Kris Bryant had three hits, including his 27th homer, and the Chicago Cubs overcame the ejections of John Lackey and Willson Contreras on their way to an 8-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.

The hope on appeal is that Torre takes into consideration that Contreras was the third party in this disagreement between Baker and Lackey.

Lackey was fined for his role in the incident, and Contreras was remorseful when he spoke about it after the contest. He'll continue to play while he appeals his suspension. Sep.

After Lackey argued the call, he returned to the mound and his 3-2 pitch was hit into center field for a run-scoring single. "Those don't grow on trees".

Contreras apologized after Friday's game for his actions. "I'm sure if I see Jordan (Baker) tomorrow I will apologize to him".

"I don't have any concerns on my part at all", Contreras said.

Maddon was asked if he would speak to Lackey about controlling his emotions - especially considering it caused the Cubs to go to the bullpen in the fifth inning in a game against a team chasing them in the NL Central race.
