The Singapore Grand Prix takes place Sunday at 8AM ET from Marina Bay Street Circuit.

"We are incredibly happy to announce this extension and very proud of our partnership", F1 chief executive Chase Carey said at a news conference at the racetrack.

Liberty Media had taken complete control of F1 in January, ending Bernie Ecclestone's 40-year reign at the helm of affairs. Mercedes now lead Ferrari by 62 points - and this weekend represents a great chance for Ferrari, who undoubtedly hold the upper hand in Singapore - to close the gap on the Silver Arrows.

Mercedes AMG Petronas and Scuderia Ferrari have been the two dominant teams in Formula One (F1) so far this season and they are expected to battle it out again at the annual night race this weekend.

"We look forward to the continued support of all Singaporeans as we work with Formula 1, Singapore GP, and all stakeholders, to ensure the F1 Singapore Grand Prix remains an event that we can all be proud of".

Organisers project that another 100,000 may visit this year's race.

The announcement, prolonging the distinctive night race which has been dubbed F1's "crown jewel" and the "Monaco of the East", comes after neighbouring Malaysia made a decision to cancel its grand prix, citing rising costs.

"We have interest from many countries around the world for races in the future". We have talked about the opportunity to grow the sport in Asia as well as the Americas.

"We have big plans for Formula 1".

"We think agreements should always reflect ongoing fair value between two parties and we're happy to have to build this sport if we want to receive increased value over time, to make sure we're delivering better and better events".
