He pointed out that a large portion of Clinton's supporters in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary went on to vote for Republican Sen.

In her 2016 election memoir "What Happened", Clinton said that she stayed home to watch the march instead of participating.

Although Clinton - a former first lady and secretary of state - won the popular vote by almost 3 million votes, she failed to secure the requisite number of electoral votes to win the White House.

Interviewer Rachel Martin asks Clinton about whether she believes that sexism played a role in her defeat to Donald Trump, and if she thinks this might be because Clinton failed to inspire them.

"If I showed up, nasty politics would unavoidably follow" despite her being "upset and anxious for the country", she said. "It says that an anachronism that was designed for another time no longer works".

Clinton has shown her support for the Women's March on several occasions, thanking protesters for "marching for our values".

During the interview, Clinton also discussed utilizing "alternate nostril breathing" to relax in the aftermath of her loss.

The quote that spread widely on Facebook should not be attributed to Hillary Clinton, because she didn't say those exact words and was quoting someone else to begin with - and she pointedly did not use the word "caved".
