The state government had on August 12 ordered an official inquiry by the chief secretary and suspended the principal of the Medical College Hospital Rajiv Mishra. Talked to hospital administration about the problem of the hospital and its solution and also took action against the deficiencies.

He also said the deaths are not due to lack of oxygen but because of different medical conditions of patients admitted in the hospital. He said AIIMS was coming to Gorakhpur and now ICMR centre would be also set up there.

Some witnesses confirmed that the chaotic scene started between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. on Saturday as medical practitioners and relatives went into a frenzy when the private contractor Pushpa Sales, stopped supplying oxygen cylinders and the tanks started running dry.

#LUCKNOW The owner of the firm that supplied oxygen to Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital, Gorakhpur, said his contract had ended in March and was not renewed. "After repeated attempts to get paid, we served a legal notice to the hospital authorities", Sharma said.

"This government is a murderer", said Raj Babbar, head of the opposition Congress party in Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister is very concerned and he assured complete assistance from the Centre.
