Swiss maestro Roger Federer defeated Spain's Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-4, 6-4 to cruise into the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

"It pays off playing aggressively here in Montreal, plus I feel comfortable at net, so why not spend some time there instead of slugging it out from the baseline", Federer said in a post-match television interview. "It will also be a good match to watch, I think". "I just told him that this is the beginning for him".

The 24-year-old Schwartzman will next face Dutchman Robin Haase, who upset seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1 in 2 hours and 9 minutes.

Wozniacki has won five of six career meetings between the two, and they've all come in straight-set fashion.

The pair met in a Davis Cup World Group play-off in 2012 with Federer winning 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

Shapovalov, who needed a wild card to gain entry into the tournament, continued his cinderella run Friday by rallying to beat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

It seems nearly unnecessary to discuss how the greatest male tennis player of all time has made history, but Federer is deserving of every last word of praise. The win over Donaldson put him in a quarterfinal for the sixth time this year.

Shapovalov, who was playing Challenger-level tournaments only two weeks ago, became the youngest player to reach a Masters 1000 Series tournament with a winning run this week that included knocking off top seed Rafael Nadal and 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro.

"I saved four match points the first round (against Rogerio Dutra Silva)". It was the fourth time in five matches he lost the first set, but this time there was no coming back. He let a set point slip away with Ferrer serving at 3-5, but Federer served out the second set in the 10th game.

Germany's top player echoed those sentiments in press, elaborating on what he felt could be the beginning of a solid rivalry. "I went for my shots in the big moments and I caught a couple of lines got a little bit lucky".

Haase improved to 5-0 all-time against Schwartzman with his comeback after losing the opening set.

"Worst loss of the year because I lost against a player with a lower ranking", Nadal said. I came back really fast, from zero to 60 in eight months. Hopefully a lot of other big matches, maybe in Grand Slams, maybe in finals of tournaments.

"Then this kind of eats you up inside mentally", he said. "I still have to work really hard every day". How much can I focus on my own game?

"I struggled against Ferrer early on, so today was better". Only Rafael Nadal (47) has more wins than the 20-year-old this season, and with his win tonight Zverev became the youngest Coupe Rogers finalist since 2007, when Novak Djokovic won the title.
