The former Liverpool midfielder said on LFC TV following the Reds' 3-3 draw against Watford: "Man United have spent, but for me I saw Man United the other night and I don't think there's a lot of difference from last season".

I think he's a top player. I'm not sure about that.

Moyes managed Wayne Rooney at Everton and United, and has backed him for success following his return to Goodison Park this summer. "I've been playing there [at left-back] for a good seven or eight months now, so for me to be here [with the first team] after that amount of time, it just shows how much progress I can make".

"If you go back through history, Manchester United played with wingers, always had wide players, always crossed the ball in the box, and to be fair I think if Lukaku gets enough service I think he'll score enough goals".

"Last season he reminded me at times of when United signed Juan Sebastian Veron".

The Argentina global spent two seasons at Old Trafford and won the Premier League title in 2003 before moving to Chelsea later that summer.

"With Lukaku you get a fella who might not get a kick for 70 minutes and then scores two goals".

"I think it's the one thing he can do as well as anyone in the country as his goalscoring record proves, he's got as good a goalscoring record as anybody, if not better than everybody".

"In the past the strikers Manchester United have had have not necessarily been of [Lukaku's] type", Moyes said. "I am feeling in good shape".

'He was never someone who was going to play in all the games at United.

"Well, bringing Marouane Fellaini was part of what I hoped he would come to United and play in different games".

"As you rightly said, if you look at the games that he played under Louis van Gaal and now under Jose Mourinho, he's vital. Winning everything! We are Manchester United and we want to get back to being the big Manchester United", he told Nissan Super Sunday ahead of their clash with West Ham live on Sky Sports this weekend.

Manchester United made Paul Pogba the most expensive player in world football when they completed an £89million move for him from Juventus last summer.

But the signing of Nemanja Matic is expected to give Pogba the freedom to find his best form and help United challenge for the Premier League.

After impressing in the Reserves and youth ranks, Mitchell was rewarded with his first-team debut on the final day of last season when he started in the win over Crystal Palace.
