Most of OR is aware of the total solar eclipse that will happen August 21, when the moon will move across the face of the sun between 9:04 a.m. and 11:37 a.m. and completely block it for a few minutes starting at 10:17 a.m. Eugene is just south of the path of totality that will experience a true total eclipse; the UO campus will see a 98 to 99 percent eclipse.

With the rare opportunity to view a total solar eclipse, the Blount County Public Library is offering several activities related to the eclipse. The path of totality will enter in OR, cross through Kansas City and Nashville before exiting in SC, as illustrated by the graphic.

The only safe time to look at an eclipse without eye protection is when the moon completely blocks out the sun's rays, which won't happen in MI.

Final Contact: 3:59 p.m. The moon does not completely cover the sun from our vantage point.

As you know, this month there'll be a total solar eclipse - a once-in-a-lifetime event. According to NASA, the total eclipse lasted just over a minute.

"The other piece of advice I have is when you're watching the eclipse with your children, be sure your kids have their eye protection on", Van Gelder urges. This means, weather permitting, residents will see a majority of the sun's diameter covered by the moon and experience unnatural darkness in the midday. That will be when the moon starts to touch the edge of the sun. "We want customers to buy with confidence anytime they make a purchase on Amazon.com and eclipse glasses sold on Amazon.com are required to comply with the relevant ISO standard".

You should never assume that you can look away quickly enough to avoid eye damage because every person is different in terms of their retinal sensitivity, and you do not want to risk being the one who damages their eyes just to try to look at the sun.

The alerts come days before the solar eclipse, and as others said they have been duped by fake glasses.

To view the solar eclipse directly without damage to your eyes, you need special solar filter glasses. We've included a list of more than 100 places hosting eclipse events and parties, as well as stories about eclipses and how the area is preparing.

I have had people ask about sunglasses, and even 3D glasses. NO! Yet here's something that you may not have thought of: How will a total or even a partial solar eclipse affect homes and workplaces that use solar power?

Both recommended against using a camera or binoculars to photograph or look at the sun during an eclipse.
