Antonio Conte, fairly clearly, is not happy that he has been sold, and the Serbian was probably United's best player in the Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday. "It will not be easy but we travel to win the game". The arrival of 11 "important" players - as Guardiola refers to them - has handed the Spanish coach an embarrassment of riches up in attack and fresh energy throughout his squad, which now has an average age of 24. City played the patient, technical passing football with which the Catalan made his name, and his starting lineup was adventurous; Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus started together ahead of twinned playmakers De Bruyne and Silva. So big congratulations to all people working with City, we are a strong club.

"There are one or two players, like Kyle Walker, who's great because he's been in the Premier League for a long time and he knows the league", Distin told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

"Talking about attacking options - we know it in training of course because we have to face [Aguero] every day".

Pep Guardiola, a former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager, has yet to win a trophy since taking charge of City at the start of last season. But we can not forget that when we do something better than last season it's because we've been one year together.

The Citizens then padded their lead when Brighton's Lewis Dunk scored an own-goal just five minutes later.

After the victory, City chief coach Pep Guardiola hailed the work-rate put in by his players.

After their title rivals lost their heads, Manchester City kept theirs.

"We spent the first three months in the bottom places".

Brighton boss Chris Hughton was proud of his side but felt they exhausted towards the end as City's class showed in the final 20 minutes.

"Like a lot of top teams here in England and around the world, always they are looking for the best possible".

"I saw last season how tough the league is - it doesn't matter who the top teams are. Hopefully in the future we can be more accurate in those terms".
