Sanchez has one year left on his current contract but Arsene Wenger has said that last season's top scorer will be at the club this season, even if there is no progress on an extension to his deal.

"Goalscoring record is not necessarily transferable from the French League to the English league, that's for sure", said Wenger.

"I don't know whether Craig Shakespeare will play a 4-4-1-1 or a proper 4-4-2, but it's a good signing".

However, it's Pep Guardiola's Manchester City who have been considered the favourites for some time, and are willing to pay £50 million for the player they want to add to their forward line.

Paddy Power is going one step further with Manchester United's opener and is offering new customers odds of 4/1 (max £10 stake) for the Red Devils to beat West Ham and start their campaign positively.

When asked what the Community Shield victory means for his side, the Frenchman said: "It will increase the belief but then you face a shock when the league starts".

Arsenal have reportedly offered Alexis Sanchez a new contract worth £300,000 a week in a last-ditch attempt to secure his long-term future with the club.

"For us, Alexis Sanchez is a loss, of course", Wenger said, adding that he was unlikely to have included the Chilean global in Friday's starting line-up regardless of the fresh injury. "I can take a gamble on one, maybe maximum two, but I focus more on the players who had the right number of competitive minutes in recent weeks".

Goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, who joined German side VfB Stuttgart last month, is the only player to depart, while several additions have been made to bolster the squad, including striker Kelechi Iheanacho and defender Harry Maguire. I just think we are not open - what I said to you many times - to any offers, anyway.

As I write this, Alexis Sanchez is still an Arsenal player. I had some friends that got me playing indoor and that really helped me understand the sport and the great plays these athletes are making.

"Yesterday I had the managers' meeting and was talking with the other managers in the other clubs". I think we are better than last season.

But he is no closer to shifting those deemed surplus to requirements as he believes many Premier League clubs are in the same position.
