According to a Q&A shared by the company on its official forum, OnePlus made it clear that it won't push any major software update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T after Android O. OnePlus's Community Manager and Head of Product answered several OnePlus 3/3T software related questions, during the Q&A they revealed the news. The Open Beta Program will move on to the OnePlus 5 once the OnePlus 3 and 3T receive the Android O update.

The company kept the name with the newly released OnePlus 5 as well as the recent flagship has been receiving updates right from the day one.

After the launch of the new OnePlus 5 in June, owners of last year's OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were left with some confusion whether their older devices would continue to get software updates from the company.

While the advent of Android O update is indeed a good news for the anxious OnePlus 3/3T owners, the confirmed dearth of updates, following that will surely discourage many.

"We'll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates", said Oliver Z.

Smartphone manufacturers typically keep open an industry-standard two-year action window for major software upgrades.

As for the foreseeable future, OxygenOS on the OnePlus 3/3T will be updated to version 4.5 in the next month or two, though a security patch will arrive "soon". Many wondered would OnePlus follow the same footsteps for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. There's now no word as to when Android O will be released for the 3/3T, but with Google expected to release public builds before the month is over, we'd hope that OnePlus can push it out before 2017 is over.
