Swansea set a £50 million valuation for the Iceland worldwide but the Daily Telegraph claim that Everton attempted to renegotiate the transfer's details.

Everton are prepared to pay £40m plus add-ons but have so far been unable to agree the structure of those payments. We have seen it before.

"If Gylfi does go - and it's a big if at the moment - I'm sure the scouting and recruitment team will have the people behind the scenes they want to bring in", added Rodgers, who was back at Swansea for Swans legend Alan Tate's testimonial. You need time to get everybody in the same picture and understand how we work. "We'd still like to do a couple of things [in the transfer market], but we have until the end of August to do that".

"Gylfi is an outstanding player and if he was to go I know it would be with a heavy heart", Rodgers said. "Of course I would like the situation resolved as soon as possible, I've said that quite clearly". The Gylfi situation is a crucial part of the business we could potentially do because it is going to be a high fee if he goes. We're in a period of limbo with a very good player.

"They have worked hard and we are in good shape going into the first game".

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has insisted an agreement is close despite Swansea's reported £50million asking price, but the Welsh club's other transfer business is on hold until the matter is settled. That has not changed.

Despite suggestions that transfer talks between the two clubs had broken down, Koeman said Everton remain in negotiations with Swansea - a point backed up by Clement. I have heard the comments of Paul Clement, the manager of Swansea. Though he also serves fair warning that they will not drag this out until the final day, so if either Spurs or Chelsea truly want Barkley, we better get a move on.

"We are not in a hurry but finally we hope to do the deal".
