In another damning evidence in the Chandigarh stalking case, a CCTV footage has been recovered of August 4th which clearly shows accused Vikas Barala purchasing alcohol before chasing down Varnika Kunda at midnight.

They were produced before the court on August 10 where they were sent to two-day police remand. The Chandigarh police had submitted an application asking for judicial remand for Barala, the son of Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party President Subhash Barala, and Kumar, for 14 days.

There was a massive outrage on streets and in the Parliament regarding the incident.

The defence lawyer had earlier claimed that Vikas and Ashish had not committed any offence and said a "media trial" was going on in the case.

The victim, 29-year-old Varnika Kundu, had alleged that on the intervening night of August 4 and 5 Vikas and Ashish chased her, blocked her way, hit on her vehicle window and tried to force her door open. On August 5, Vikas Barala was arrested along with Ashish on the charges of stalking and harassing an IAS officer's daughter Varnika Kundu in Chandigarh.

Subhash Barala, who held a press conference on Thursday, said police must take appropriate action against his son as per the law if he is named in the FIR.

After spending two day in police custody, the duo were again produced in court.

However, both were released from the jail after they got bail in the case.

After the incident, Kundu filed a complaint and the duo was booked on charges of stalking and attempt to kidnap.
