According to TMZ, the rapper (born Earl Simmons) appeared in a NY courtroom on Friday (Aug. 11) and was handed house arrest, instead of jail time.
The outlet says that X reportedly failed four drug tests after testing positive for both marijuana and cocaine, and also violated his bail conditions of his tax evasion case by traveling to St. Louis without the court's permission to take care of a family matter. The "Party Up" rapper is now out on bail on charges of tax evasion - to the tune of $1.7 million, according to the IRS - for which he first appeared in court on July 14.
Shockingly, instead of sending him to jail, the judge was lenient on him and ordered that X be place on house arrest with an electronic ankle bracelet.
"I'm going to not detain him in jail, although a very strong argument could be made for detaining him in jail", Rakoff said, adding that he believes too many people are locked up before trial. After pleading not guilty back in July, X was let out on bond but faced strict conditions, including travel restrictions.
The judge could easily have thrown the rapper in jail, but showed him mercy by putting him on house arrest.
