Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is arriving here on Friday on a day-long visit to flood-affected regions of north Gujarat, party leaders said on Thursday. That is your right. The CM had endangered his life by travelling in to the life-boat in the Banas River to reach to the flood victims and share woes and sorrows. He further said that the issue will be raised in Parliament by Congress.

Rahul said that it is the victims' right to get compensation and if required Congress will fight on their behalf.

The Congress Vice President will first reach Dhanera in Banakantha and meet flood-affected people before proceeding to Patan district. Lakhimpur had registered the highest number of deaths during the recent floods.

The Congress vice-president, who flew in directly from New Delhi to Lakhimpur in eastern Assam, later flew to Silchar in southern Assam where he attended the cremation of veteran Congress leader and former union minister Santosh Mohan Deb. The visit comes a few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of north Gujarat, and announced relief of Rs 500 crore.

The decision to declare these districts, which were hit the most by the flood, as "disaster affected", was based on the recommendation of the collectors of these districts, it said. About 200 people were still lodged in a relief camp in Lakhimpur district, it said.

Over 270 persons are estimated to have died and 4.5 lakh people affected by the floods in the state.

Over 5.04 lakh farm families have been badly hit by the two waves of floods in the past two months.
