Ed Sheeran's came much sooner than expected, as he appeared on the show's season seven opener yesterday... and yes, he sung. Arya said. Sheeran's character identified it as "a new one".

"It's a pretty song, I've never heard it before?"

Ed's Game Of Thrones appearance saw him sat in the woods singing: "For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman's hands are warm".

During the first series, fans were able to see and Ed Sheeran.

There's been no word from Sheeran himself as to what actually caused him to take this step, but his fans are quite disappointed by his disappearance from the Twitter realm.

'Fanatic I am. subscribed just to watch GOT. but Ed Sheeran ruined it lol, ' the Facebook post read.

The role is a flawless fit for Sheeran, who is an admitted super fan of the sitcom and has a tattoo of Blinky the three-eyed fish on his arm.

Yes, that means he'll be singing again; executive producer Al Jean told EW they recorded his voice over the phone.

Whether the deletion of Sheeran's account is related to negative tweets such as these is anybody's guess, but one thing that's for certain is the tailspin of despair that fans are feeling due to the Sheeran-shaped void in the Twittersphere.

Sheeran's Simpsons episode will air in the States some time around November this year.
