Don't let the Summer League success fool you

The Lakers rookie once again played in non-BBB shoes.

It's kind of a odd place the Balls are in right now. When asked if his recent stretch of games wearing sneakers not made by his family's Big Baller Brand was an endorsement audition, he responded by saying, "Something like that".

On Saturday, LaVar Ball told ESPN that the goal was to show the major brands (Nike, Adidas, Under Armour) what they're missing in the decision to pass on a licensing partnership with Big Baller Brand.

Brooklyn offerred the Lakers their toughest test thus far, as Brooklyn's starting five featured four players with at least a season of National Basketball Association experience in Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie, Isaiah Whitehead and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, all of whom scored at least 15 points on the night.

Now winners of four straight, the Lakers will face the Dallas Mavericks - who are 10-0 at the Orlando and Las Vegas Summer Leagues - in Sunday's semifinal matchup at 5 p.m. PT.

In the Summer League quarterfinals, Brooklyn initially stunned the Lakers with their breakneck pace, racking up 63 first-half points to take an eight-point advantage into intermission.

In his most recent outing during the "SL" playoffs, Ball almost posted another triple-double by putting up 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists in a Lakers win.

Walton said he could see that Ball's passing has already become contagious on the Summer League team and that he was receiving texts from Lakers veterans saying they can't wait to run fast breaks with Ball.

While there were questions about Ball's athleticism and shooting form, many believed his ability to see the court, make on-target passes, and find open teammates would make him, at the least, a rotation-worthy guard. But some insiders in the shoe industry thought it was odd that Lonzo was wearing other brands so soon.

So far, Lonzo has done nothing but impress since a poor first game. "In that second half they missed a few, got a little bit exhausted, and we were able to capitalize". Throughout this summer league, Zubac has struggled to score like he did in during the regular season. "Just being cautious. I wanted to get back out there, but the training staff is going to take care of me, and I will be with them tonight and tomorrow and hope I can get back out there tomorrow".
