If Aadhaar credentials are not linked with PAN or mentioned in the ITR, then such a person will not be able to e-file the ITR.

People across the nation have been facing trouble linking their Aadhaar card to PAN card.

On logging in to the site, a pop up window will appear prompting you to link your PAN card with Aadhaar card.

So is there a deadline to link Aadhaar with PAN? No.

He added that the date after which PANs not linked to Aadhaar will be declared invalid will be notified by the board later. Notwithstanding, on the off chance that you don't connect your Aadhaar with PAN before July 1, your PAN won't end up plainly invalid.

Though the process to link Aadhaar to PAN by SMS or the Internet is a must for all tax payers, it is mandatory for those whose incomes do not fall under the taxable bracket as well.

However, the circular by CBEC makes linking mandatory from July 1 and before July 1.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) assured that PAN numbers will not be tagged invalid even if they have not been linked to respective Aadhar numbers by June 30. There are over 25 crore PAN card holders in India, while Aadhaar has been alloted to about 115 crore people.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley through an amendment to tax proposals in the Finance Bill for 2017-18 had made Aadhaar a must for filing income tax returns and along with linking of PAN with Aadhaar to check tax evasion through use of multiple PAN cards. The Income Tax Department's website crashed on Thursday but was later restored.

What if you don't have an Aadhaar? .

The Supreme Court recently said that it is mandatory only for those who hold both the documents. This means you can choose to file the tax returns today, and need not link the two IDs. After verification from Unique Identification Authority of India the linking will be confirmed.

If you noticed any minor mismatch in the name that you have provided with the actual data in the UIDAI database, we would get the OTP to your registered mobile number.

Then enter your name exactly as mentioned in Aadhaar and then submit it. "Provided that in case of failure to intimate the Aadhaar number, the permanent account number allotted to the person shall be deemed to be invalid and the other provisions of this Act shall apply, as if the person had not applied for allotment of permanent account number", reads the section (2) of Section 139 AA of I-T Act.
