However, now the company has announced a new mobile platform for the mid-range smartphones and tablets called the Snapdragon 450.

Just like its predecessor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 is built on a 14nm process, just like its predecessor.

The Snapdragon 450 is the first in the 400-tier to support real-time Bokeh (Live Bokeh) effect. Battery life has also been improved, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 comes with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, allowing for native fast charging solutions on budget devices. The reason for this enhanced efficiency on 450 chipset has been attributed to higher-end components from 600 and 800 series trickling down to the 400-series. A true octa-core CPU is found inside with eight Cortex-A53 cores running at a clock speed of 1.8GHz.

It supports one 32-bit LPDDR3 RAM.

Xiaotiancai has tied up Qualcomm Technologies to launch its Xiaotiancai Z3 kid smartwatch based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 platform.

With the newest chip, the manufacturer has promised that users can experience at least 25% boost in performance in all phones powered by the said processor. Previous system-on-a-chips were manufactured on a 28nm process which meant the processor was much larger and not as energy efficient as this new Snapdragon 450, and obviously the advantages there include allowing more space for manufacturers to add more things like a larger battery into the smartphone. The chip brings upgrades over the Snapdragon 435 SoC in terms of battery life, imaging, and gaming performance as well.

Meanwhile the Adreno 506 GPU provides a 25 percent increase in graphics performance. It also comes with Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 3.0 support, which can charge a typical smartphone from zero to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.

The Snapdragon 450 Mobile Platform focuses on improvements compared to its predecessor in four key areas including faster CPU, better batter life, better camera and better LTE connectivity.

The Snapdragon 450 also includes support for 1920 x 1200 full HD displays.

Thanks to the new upgrades, the chipset will now be capable of supporting dual 13MP cameras on board while the predecessor could only use 8MP sensors.

LTE on the Snapdragon X9 LTE modem, which is on the 450, uses 2x20MHz carrier aggregation to achieve download and upload speeds of 300Mbps and 150Mbps respectively.

To date, more than 1900 designs have launched or are in the pipeline across the Snapdragon 400 tier mobile platforms.
