Mayweather, who has been in retirement for 23 months and has a current record of 49-0, will be taking on McGregor in his first ever boxing match. Floyd Mayweather is 40 years old, he's always had problems with southpaws, and Conor McGregor is 27 years old, and he is a southpaw.

Sports reported earlier today that the betting line for the fight has opened with Mayweather a -1000 favorite and McGregor a +650 underdog. And obviously the fans wanted this too.

"That's one of the million reasons why people love Conor McGregor", White said. Mayweather and McGregor weren't involved in the call.

For McGregor, this seems to be the biggest payday of his career as he is reportedly expecting to make more than $100 Million. McGregor's boxing license was was granted by the California State Athletic Commission in December.

Mayweather Promotions will handle the undercard, which likely means boxing matches and no other UFC fights or fighters will be featured.

"The sky is the limit", said Espinoza. He will be making his professional boxing debut against Mayweather, one of the greatest boxers in history, according to ESPN.

Boxing champion-turned-promoter De La Hoya had already dismissed the planned fight as an embarrassment for boxing.

After the Pacquiao victory, Mayweather stuck to his plan to retire after his next fight, a forgettable victory over Andre Berto in September 2015, but no one believed it would last.

"We're not only drawing from the universe of boxing fans and the universe of MMA fans, we've actually tapped into the audience that doesn't follow either sport", he said.

Irish UFC lightweight champion McGregor, 28, said: "The fight is on".

At the time, McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold belts in two different weight classes at the same time, as he was also the 145-pound champion.

McGregor received a California boxing license previous year but is still waiting for his Nevada boxing license application to be approved.
